Most tradies I talk to don’t want to spend hours posting, filming, or dancing online – they just want more good jobs coming in.
Social media isn’t always about “being famous.” It’s about making it easy for people to trust you enough to call you.

Here’s the simple checklist version of what works:

1. Start with your business goal

  • Are you looking for more residential work? Bigger commercial jobs? Repeat clients?
  • Know what kind of work you want before you start posting. Your content should lead to that kind of enquiry.

2. Know your target market

  • Who’s your ideal customer — homeowners, builders, developers?
  • Where do they hang out online (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)?
  • Post in a way that speaks their language and shows you understand their needs.

3. Be authentic

  • Show real jobs, real teams, and real results.
  • Show your staff achievements.
  • Show your community involvement.
  • Share before-and-after photos or a quick “how we solved this” story.
  • Your photos don’t need to be over-polished. People trust honest, on-the-job photos.

4. Think of social media as proof

  • When someone hears about you, they’ll often Google you first.
  • If your social pages are empty or outdated, it can hurt your chances.
  • A few regular posts show you’re active, reliable, and still in business.

5. Leverage word of mouth

  • Happy customers are your best marketing. Encourage them to tag you in their posts and write reviews.
  • After a referral, people will often search your name and check your Facebook or Instagram before calling.
  • Make sure what they find builds trust, not doubt.

6. Keep it simple and consistent

  • You don’t have to post every day. Once a week or fortnightly can keep you visible.
  • Use a quick phone snap from the job site and a short caption.
  • Always include an easy way to contact you.

Your social media isn’t your whole business. It’s your shop window. Keep it clean, keep it current, and make it easy for people to choose you.
